Because of this unavoidable response, intercultural speakers/mediators need to become aware of their own values and how these influence their views of other people's values. Intercultural mediators need a critical awareness of themselves and their values, as well as those of other people. It is not the purpose of teaching to try to change learners values, but to make them explicit and conscious in any evaluative response to others.
